Interview with John Collins from NBC's Treasure Hunters

Fans of reality game shows tend to be treated well all year long, and this summer is promising to be better than ever. Starting June 18th, there is going to be a new kid on the block, NBC's Treasure Hunters. The promos for this show are looking excellent, and Realivision is very happy to talk to one of the stars of the show, John from the team Southie Boys.

John, thank you very much for your time. This has got to be very exciting for you. How nervous are you leading up to the premiere?

..Yes it is very exciting!!! I wouldn't say that any of us (SouthieBoys) are nervous but the anticipation level is a very high.

Can you tell us a little about yourself, and how the name "Southie Boys" came about?

..I was born and raised in small irish section of southie called southie nicknamed Southie hence the name "Southie Boys". I am the youngest of seven childen. I am a die hard Patriots and Red Sox fan and I enjoy running and weight trainging in my spare time. I am also an avid poker player.

Have you ever applied to a reality series before Treasure Hunters?

..Yes. The second season of Survivor and I made it to the last round but was not chosen. At the time, I was very disappointed but things could not have worked out any better. I think TH has the chance to be one of the greatest reality shows!!

What was it about Treasure Hunters that made you and your friends decide to apply?

..The twins were casted in LA while working at the firehouse. They interviewed a few other firefighters along with them but the producers weren't crazy about them. After a few unsuccesful interviews with other firemen, I received a call to meet the casting directors in southie. I was then sent to LA to meet the producers along wit the twins and the rest is history.

Shows like Survivor and Amazing Race have been around for a long time, so contestants can watch and plan ahead how they're going to approach them. Treasure Hunters is brand new, so you went into it blind. Do you think that helped, hurt, or made no difference?

..It really didn't make a difference. Treasure Hunters is very unique and in no way will it be compared to either Treasure Hunters or Survivor.

Understanding that you can't talk too much about the actual show yet, what can you tell us about it and what can we look forward to?

..Make sure your brain is rested and ready to work!!!

Matt and Martin are twin brothers, and you are a long time friend. How has this experience affected your bond?

..Bond? We want to kill each other!!! Just kidding - I would consider myself more of a brother than a friend. But like brothers, we argue alot and we disagree with each other but we also have a ton of respect for each other.

What have you learned about yourself participating in this great adventure?

..I need more patience - hahaha!!

How would you describe your team's gameplay?

..ummmm fair? honest? - ok im lying!!

One thing I like about you guys (other than that I've seen the photos and with the risk of sounding like I'm sucking up, that alone is a good reason to cheer for you three to go far in the game) is that you have a website up and running already, www.southieboys.com, instead of scrambling to get one up after the show is finished airing. What can we find on the site now, and what do you think we can see in the future?

..You will new photos after all our appearances, posts in our forums, puzzles and we have a few surpises that we can't reveal....

Thank you very much, John, and we wish you great luck in the game!
