So You Think You Can Dance - Air Date May 31
We were treated to another hour of auditions from Los Angeles last night. There were some bad dancers, of course, but nobody so awful and crazy to be worth dwelling on. If they wanted to drag out the audition episodes, I don't know why they just didn't show one city at a time instead of all of them last week, and back to LA this time, back to Charlotte next episode...
There really wouldn't be a need to go over this episode if it weren't for the return of the SickStep crew. If you watched last season, you'll remember Ryan, the breakdancer extraordinaire and reminder of Astro Boy's continuing contribution to the hairstyles of the youth of today. Well he was back and supporting his crew who were trying out again.
Watching them breakdance is insane, the moves they make and the sheer entertainment value they provide. Ryan went pretty far last season, there's no reason one of these four shouldn't do as well.
Okay, one of the two of them who got past the choreography part after they were all called back to try that.
And this brings me back to a point I keep making - Watch the damned show! Even worse, something they know personally went through the whole process last year and knows what it takes. These guys have killer moves when it comes to breakdancing, but they know they'll need to dance other styles and learn choreography if they expect to move on.
The two that didn't make it, I have to wonder if they took any lessons since last year. Certainly it wouldn't compare to years of dance training, but a year of Arthur Murray would at least prepare them for some of the styles they'll likely meet. And why not take classes in jazz or lyrical as well? To have mind-blowing talent like that only to be taken down because they couldn't catch on the choreography? That's a shame, and I'd like to see them try again next year with a little experience in other styles under their belts.
